Description
A simple and delicious homemade apple pie recipe featuring tender apples, cinnamon, and a flaky crust.
Ingredients
- 6 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed
- 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg, beaten with 1 tsp water (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any drips.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
- Roll out the bottom crust in a 9-inch pie plate. Fill it with your apple mixture, then dot the top with small butter cubes. Cover with the top crust and crimp the edges to seal.
- Brush the top with the beaten egg. Cut a few small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Place the pie in the oven on the preheated baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes at 425°F, then reduce heat to 375°F (190°C) and bake for another 35-40 minutes, until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
- Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing.
