Description

A simple and delicious homemade apple pie recipe featuring tender apples, cinnamon, and a flaky crust.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tsp water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any drips.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  3. Roll out the bottom crust in a 9-inch pie plate. Fill it with your apple mixture, then dot the top with small butter cubes. Cover with the top crust and crimp the edges to seal.
  4. Brush the top with the beaten egg. Cut a few small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  5. Place the pie in the oven on the preheated baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes at 425°F, then reduce heat to 375°F (190°C) and bake for another 35-40 minutes, until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  6. Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. This pie is perfect for family gatherings or as a comforting treat.
